Traveling by train with your bicycle is becoming increasingly common, whether for work or leisure. These two modes of transport are perfectly complementary and align with a responsible approach to mobility. Train companies have recognized this and all offer solutions, some more practical or restrictive than others, for bringing your bicycle with you.
In this article we will see how this works with SNCF but be aware that all companies display on their websites all the details concerning the transport of bicycles.
Here is what is stated on the SNCF website:
The golden rule: a disassembled bicycle packed in a specific bag with maximum dimensions of 120x90 cm (85x85 cm for Eurostar) is considered hand luggage. It does not require a reservation and incurs no extra charge (except with Ouigo: additional baggage option).
Considered as hand luggage, the bicycle in a cover must be labeled and must not exceed the maximum permitted dimensions: 120 cm in height by 90 cm in width.
It is therefore essential that the bicycle be disassembled and stored in a cover of 120 x 90 cm maximum in order to avoid incurring additional costs.
